Animals have always been a very important part of my life. Ever since I was a small child, I knew I wanted to work with animals as a career. I followed my heart and today I am a veterinary nurse and I work full-time at a vet clinic. As a veterinary nurse, I work as a member of the veterinary team, providing expert nursing care for sick, injured and hospitalized animals. It is a very rewarding and challenging job. The best part of my job is to be able to help many pets and their owners every single day.
At the vet clinic I play a significant role in educating owners on maintaining the health of their pets. No day is ever the same and pet owners have different issues that need to be solved.
I have a lot of experience working with animals in different countries. After I finished College in Denmark, I decided to go to Australia to get some experience working with a different variety of animals.
During my stay in Australia, I joined WIRES (Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.) and completed a course that enabled me to work as a volunteer rescuing and caring for orphaned and injured native animal. After the animals recovered, they were released into their natural habitats.
I also worked on a cattle station, spending many hours on horseback mustering cattle. It was a “once in a lifetime” experience that all people who loves horses and nature should try.
Later I worked as a stablehand at an Australian Sports Pony stud. I attended in everyday things such as cleaning stables, training horses and getting the young horses ready for shows. It was a great experience and I learned a lot about breeding horses.
When I am off work, I spend a lot of time training my dog Sammie. She is a German Shepherd mix. We first met when she was 7 months old. The former owner did not know much about dogs with high activity level. Sammie had a lot of behavior problems when she was left alone in his house. For me it was “love at first sight” when I first saw Sammie at the vet clinic, I knew straight away that she was the right dog for me. After I got Sammie it was amazing to see how fast she became a totally different dog and all the behavior problems were gone. Obedience work with plenty of praise helped build a better confidence and she turned into a happy and stable dog. I could not wish for a better dog, and together we have done very well at many obedience competitions.
